•Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi Express
•Amritsar-Howrah Express
•Amritsar-Jaipur Express
•Varanasi-Jodhpur Marudhar Express
•Allahabad-Saharanpur Marudhar Express.

4235/4236, Varanasi Bareilly express will remain cancelled between Lucknow and Bareilly. Train no 4235 will depart from Varanasi on January 2 and will be cancelled beyond Lucknow. Train no 4236 will depart from Lucknow to Varanasi.

Meanwhile, NR has plans to upgrade the profile of passengers amenities this year. All the trains originating from Lucknow division will have mobile charging points in the sleeper coaches.

And, division will work towards making the trains punctual. “We know this is the biggest problem facing our passengers and we will take some serious action to ensure the timely running of trains,” said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), NR, Chahatey Ram.

Besides, the not so good routes of the division like Barabanki-Unnao will be given more attention . The speed of the trains running on the routes like Barabanki-Unnao and Allahabad-Lucknow will be increased.

The circulating areas of Varanasi and Lucknow station will get a facelift. NR will also focus on improving the condition of approach roads to the Charbagh station. Security will also be a prime concern for the railways.

Railways has already cancelled more than 25 trains due to poor visibility, 19 of which would remain cancelled up to January 31.

Unveiling the rail budget for 2009-10, railway minister Mamata Banerjee said, “The Railways paid their full dividend liability of Rs4,717 crore in 2008-09 and will pay an even higher dividend of Rs5,479 crore in 2009-10.”

The railways will be paying higher dividend despite the adverse “impact of increase in working expenses due to the Sixth Pay Commission and sluggishness in earnings due to the economic slowdown”.The cash surplus of the railways during the current fiscal is expected to dip to Rs14,201 crore from Rs17,400 crore in the previous fiscal, mainly on account of higher wage bill during the year.

According to Banerjee, the railways disbursed Rs13,600 crore during 2008-09 towards implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.For the current fiscal, she said, “After having absorbed the impact of the Sixth Pay Commission, to the extent of Rs14,600 crore in 2009-10, the cash surplus before dividend of the railways work out to Rs14,201, net revenue of Rs8,121 crore and operating ratio of 9.25%.”
