Check the balance in your Provident Fund account nationwide upto the date, the accounts are updated, which also includes the latest approved transactions of settlement/advances/transfer-in/transfer-out, if any. You may need to select the EPFO office where your account is maintained and furnish your PF Account number. Leave the extension field blank, in case your account does not have one. You will be asked to enter your name and mobile number. The given mobile number will be recorded along with the PF Account Number. On successful submission of above information, the details will be sent through SMS to the given mobile number.

Step 1) Go to Link – http://59.180.233.84/epfo/member_balance/member_balance_office_select.php and select state where your PF account

is maintained.

India wins UN Security Council Seat | Congrats India!

With 187 votes in its bag, India has received the highest number of votes for getting into the United Nations Security Council in the past five years, according to Indian diplomat.

Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s envoy to the UN, described this as a “ringing endorsement.”

“This is the highest vote that any country has got in the last five years,” he told PTI. “Now that’s saying a lot.”

Out of the 190 countries that voted, India received 187 votes.After the vote in the General Assembly last morning, the diplomats of the Indian mission to the UN celebrated by openning a couple of bottles of champagne and serving a lunch of spicy Chinese food.India, which is a founding member of the UN is returning to the Security Council after a gap of 19 years. It has been on the Council six times before–having last served in 1992.

Other countries to be elected are South Africa, Colombia, Germany and Portugal.Canada, which was also contending, received the least number of votes and eventually withdrew after the second round of voting.

The five new countries will be replacing Austria, Japan, Mexico, Turkey and Uganda.Three of the new members are part of the G4 (India, Brazil, Japan and Germany), which want to become permanent members.After the vote, India made it clear that it would be pushing for change in the next two years as it serves out it term as a non-permanent member.

“Not only are we entering the council but we’re entering the council when inter-governmental text based negotiations are underway and those text based negotiations are expected to progress for a final outcome in the next twelve months,” Puri said.

The Indian envoy asserted that countries like Brazil and South Africa “are expected to utilise their tenure as non-permanent members in order to facilitate longer-term permanent membership for themselves while their serving this terms.”While India, South Africa, and Colombia were not challenged by any other country from their region, the two seats of the Western European and Others Group were contested between Portugal, Germany and Canada.

Germany made it in the first round of voting with 128 votes–just enough to scrape through, while Canada received the least number of votes and eventually withdrew after the second round of voting.Puri did not comment on Canada’s performance except to draw a parallel between the 1996 vote when India failed to make the cut and was trailing behind the Japan in the election.

“It took us more than a decade to overcome the trauma of our experience in 1996,” he said.”In successive rounds of voting Canada realised that it was not mustering the votes…it did what was honourable… it withdrew… what the impact of that is going to be I really don’t know… lets wait and see.”

Without answering which countries India voted for, Puri said that New Delhi was happy that Portugal and Germany had joined the Council.Also present in the General Assembly Hall during the vote was veteran Congressman, Vidya Charan Shukla, who also served as India’s Foreign Minister.Shukla also asserted that the vote today indicated that India enjoyed support for a longer stint on the Council.

“I felt very elated and happy because this will show how strong we are as a candidate for the permanent membership,” he told PTI. “The way people voted for us, it strengthens our case for permanent membership.”

Responding to Germany’s performance, which just made the cut, Shukla said,”Germany is also candidate for permanent membership but this kind of victory weakens their case for permanent membership.”Pointing out that UN member-states know about India’s aspiration for permanent membership, Puri noted that the high number of votes indicated widespread support for its presence on the international stage.

“That is a clear and unmistakable signal that India and its role is not only acknowledged but respected by the international community,” he said, adding “what is important is that you win the election not by a comfortable margin but by a massive margin.”

India will begin serving its two year term in January 2011.

UN Security Council – How it works?

The Presidency of the Security Council is held in turn by the members of the Security Council in the English alphabetical order of their names. Each President holds office for one calendar month.Ten non-permament members, elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms and not eligible for immediate re-election. The number of non-permanent members was increased from six to ten by an amendment of the Charter which came into force in 1965.

Each Council member has one vote. Decisions on procedural matters are made by an affirmative vote of at least nine of the 15 members. Decisions on substantive matters require nine votes, including the concurring votes of all five permanent members. This is the rule of “great Power unanimity”, often referred to as the “veto” power.Under the Charter, all Members of the United Nations agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council. While other organs of the United Nations make recommendations to Governments, the Council alone has the power to take decisions which Member States are obligated under the Charter to carry out.

CWG Closing Ceremony Details | Common Wealth Games 2010

After the grand opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games it is time for the Games to get closed. The opening ceremony of CWG left the entire nation dumbstruck. The Closing Ceremony of Commonwealth Games will take place on 14th October at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium. During the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, 2010, the Commonwealth Games Ceremonial Flag will be handed over to Glasgow, which will be the next host city.

The spectators will witness ‘Vande Mataram’ to be performed by 2,010 schoolchildren at the 50-minute show.

This is not all, the closing ceremony will include songs like ‘Chak De India’ to be rendered by Sukhwinder, ‘Allah ke Bande’ by Kailash Kher and ‘Ab Ke Sawan’ by Shubha Mudgal.

400 artistes from Scotland will perform to the tunes of traditional Bagpiper music inviting all to visit Glasgow for the 2014 Games.

Bharat Bala, creative director of the event, said, “The Scottish team will perform for 10 minutes in the closing ceremony. They will showcase their traditional music and dance.”

800 artistes drawn from Kerala, Punjab, Manipur, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu will perform Indian martial arts.

More Music and More Songs will be performed by various popular singers at the closing ceremony. Apart from Sukhwinder, Kailash Kher and Shubha Mudgal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Shankar Mahadevan will also perform at the show.

Tickets for the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games were sold out Tuesday night – nearly 48 hours before the actual event Oct 14, an official at the ticketing helpline said.

Medals Tally: Commonwealth Games – 6th October 2010 : Great day for Indian Sports

Putting up an inspired display, India’s athletes gave a big impetus to the country’s ambitious target of finishing second in the Commonwealth Games by hauling up 13 medals, including six gold, on a productive third day today.India continued to rule the roost at the Dr Karni Singh shooting range by grabbing six medals, including three gold, while more success came from the weightlifing arena and wrestling mat, ensuring that the hosts retained the second position behind Australia.

Weightlifters Renu Bala Chanu (women’s 58kg) and K Ravi Kumar (69kg), who also set a new Games record, along with 55kg Greco-Roman grappler Rajender Kumar, provided the last three gold to make it the most fruitful day for the country.

Shooters, grapplers return with big haul

In the morning, the shooters held sway by adding three silver medals as well to the country’s kitty while rifle marksman Gagan Narang and pistol experts Anisa Sayyed and Omkar Singh accounted for the yellow metal.The four silver medals won by India came through the efforts of Olympic shooting champion Abhinav Bindra, shooter Sornabat Rahi, trap shooters Ronjan Sondhi and Asher Noria and grappler Manoj Kumar.

We believe that it is the incredible right of the Indian people, as of any other people, to have freedom to enjoy the fruits of their soil and have the necessities of life, so that they may have full opportunities of growth. We believe also that if any government deprives a people of these and oppress them, the people have a further right to alter or abolish it. The British Government in India has not only deprived the Indian people of their freedom but has based itself on the exploitation of the masses, and has ruined India must server the British connection and attain Purna Swaraj or complete independence.

India has been ruined economically. The revenue derived from our people is out of all proportion to our income. Our average income is seven pice per day, and of the heavy taxes we pay 20% are raised from the land revenue derived from the peasantry and 3% from the salt tax, which falls most heavily on the poor.

Village industries, such as hand spinning, have been destroyed, leaving the peasantry idle for at least four months in the year, and dulling their intellect for want of handicrafts, and nothing has been substituted, as in other countries, for the crafts thus destroyed.

Customs and currency have been so manipulated as to beep further burdens on the peasantry. British manufactured goods constitute the bulk of our imports. Customs duties betray partiality for British manufacturers, and revenue from them is not used to lessen the burden on the masses but for sustaining a highly extravagant administration. Still more arbitrary has been the manipulation of the exchange which has resulted in millions being drained away from the country.

Politically, India’s status has never been so reduced as under the British regime. No reforms have given real political power to the people. The tallest of us have to bend before the foreign authority. The rights of free expression of opinion and free association have been denied to us and many of our countrymen are compelled to live in exile abroad and cannot return to their homes. All administrative talent is killed and the masses have to be satisfied petty village offices and clerkships.

Currently, the system of education has torn us from our moorings and our training has made us bug the very chains that bind us.

Spiritually, compulsory disarmament has made us unmanly and the presence of an alien army of occupation, employed with deadly effect to crush in us the spirit of resistance, has made us think that we cannot look after ourselves or put up a defence against foreign aggression, or even defend our brothers and families from the attacks of thieves, robbers and miscreants.

We hold it to be a crime against man and God to submit any longer to a rule that has caused this fourfold disaster to our country. We recognise, however, that the most effective way of getting our freedom is not through violence. We will therefore prepare ourselves by withdrawing, so far as we can, all voluntary association from British Government, and will prepare for civil disobedience, including non-payment of taxes. We are convinced that if we can but withdraw our voluntary help and stop payment of taxes without doing violence, even under provocation; the need of his inhuman rule is assured. We therefore hereby solemnly resolve to carry out the Congress instructions issued from time to time for the purpose of establishing Purna Swaraj.
